fuzzy jammies
with the ac on in the house (it was just too hot yesterday for nighttime fresh air), my boy got to don his fuzzy jams - is it weird i can't wait for winter JUST to see him in his fleecy toed pj's each morning? just makes me want to toss the daily routine and cuddle in the bed all day long!
i also ran my 5k time trial last night at poway high track - for some reason i got all giddy when we rolled onto the high school campus. i am such a geek about that, truly and very honestly, my favorite memories of high school are basketball games, track meets, friday night football games and pep rallies. the rest of my high school memories (the actual class part, even prom) pale and are just little whisps of photographic memories in my mind. so, the time trial went well, even in 95 degrees of HOT and DRY. dave paced me and i pulled a 23:26 out of somewhere. thank you dave! (ps-this is the dave from our wedding party. the dave who is in reid's squadron now. and the dave who is running a 100 mile mountain race in 2 weeks. yes, its a big deal to do it in less than 24 hours. i can't imagine. he's quite amazing and perhaps a bit menally unsound!). so, off to the rest of my day, hiding out in the ac from the nasty wild fire season climate we're surrounded with. happy saturday!

changing before my eyes
he woke up to a second tooth in his mouth this morning. its funny how different, how much older (how much naughtier???) he looks with two little teeth in his sweet little smile. his tongue diligently played over the surfaces constantly today. he suddenly has a new interest in feeding himself but it seems his fingers are more coordinated than his gummy attempts at chewing. he'll get there. his sweet little face glowed with delight today when he realized those two new teeth have a purpose - he bit the head off his animal cracker with great surprise and confusion. and later my wee little one waltzed across the front of the entertainment center like he'd done it a million times. here to there, just like that. one moment fussing with the tv and attempting to recreate the scenario where he accidentally turned it on with the pressing of a button (what a gleeful moment of victory for him) and then next moment he spied his book at the other end, atop the receiver...and off he went, just like that. the final stages of baby (safety) proofing need to get completed this weekend. my big boy dangled from a bar today at the little gym, assisted by his biggest fan (his mama, of course) as i looked down at his legs kicking ferociously and his little lizard tongue sticking out as always. he was such an adventurous boy today, so curious and uninterested in concerning himself with the risks of crawling straight off the edge of a big, cushy mat. he played with bells, played under a beautiful, billowing parachute, log rolled down an inclined cushion, met a net friend, crawled through a tunnel, bounced a ball, banged the mat and wiggled and giggled with glee.
he and ryan played more today while his wonderful (WONDERFUL) mama watched those two boys so i could go swim. she is a doll. seriously. i am so grateful for finding such a wonderful friend in her - and even more grateful that she indulges my "play hard" philosophy on life. we're taking turns with the boys, you see - she is working on a new, fabulous pilates stage of being and i have my silly goals and hopes and dreams of running a marathon as fast as i can.
this week has been busier than i can remember being after petey's arrival - and yet it feels really good, and somehow i am more productive with more on my plate. that's just how i operate. i blame my mom. definitely. her ability to get stuff done leaves me in awe. and leaves me exhausted because we are certainly wired exactly the same in that regard. except her uncanny internal alarm clock (disease?) causing her to get all of her productive things done before 5 am. we both keep coming up with new things to try, new lists of to do's, new goals to set, new recipes to make, new projects to whip together....it just keeps coming and there is nothing either of us can do about it. and i'm ok with it. i thrive when i have 4 different 'to do' lists circulating around my house.
of course, one of my 'to do' chores is to do some of my personal trainer studying daily. i've done well this week. except for tonight. tonight i opted for blogging. :)
tomorrow is a big, scary thing - i am going to try to run 3.1 miles as fast as i can around a track at 6:30 pm (i am hoping and PRAYING that it cools off by then, it was 102 today here!) to determine what my projected marathon finishing time will be so i can commence training with a proper, realistic training guide. my new friend mike (i met him in the triathlon club of san diego, best club ever!) is helping me for free. woohoo! and my good friend dave is going to pace me. wish me luck!

sizing issue
so i bought this for petey when he was still in my belly, thought it was the cutest. and when i got it, was surprised how big and long it was. it got moved from the 6 month drawer to the 9 month drawer, never tried it on - it was oh so big. then moved to the 12 month drawer, still never put on him - looked ridiculously huge. now its in the 18 month drawer and all the other jammies are dirty. so we go to put this on him tonight. well, he sort of looks like Will Ferrell in ELF, crammed into his little white tights of an elf suit. cutie pie. needless to say, they are going in the "next kid" bin and we'll try again! :)
Wedding Photos
ok. its 4 years later, but i just got the dvd with ALL the digital images from our wedding. :) they are all posted on our mobile me website here. Enjoy!!!!

here comes a ramblin post
you may not want to read this....its going to be REALLY random. REALLY!
there are way too many things swirling around in my brain. we're at capacity. sorry, this is sort of a dump of all those things. these words are just going to fall out of my fingers. yes, its possible.
i am completely and wholly in love with this idea. reusable sandwich bags and homemade lunchbox? of course. and so the progressive pioneer leaves me completely and utterly embarassed by my (over)use of plastic sandwich bags and freezer bags. for lunches. and everything else. i will keep this in mind and utilize it in the future. sorry kids, you will be those kids with that wierd but cool (i hope) mom. are mom's ever allowed to be cool after the age of 2? i will try with realistic expectations to maintain the title as long as possible, knowing it will likely return after each child graduates from college. its funny how the cycle goes.
i'm pretty sure i most definitely want to be a bee keeper someday. someday like once we are out of the military and get to live wherever we want to and our kids are graduated or almost graduated from college - and we find some amazingly cute little house with a wonderful, beautiful, expansive yard that backs up to a lovely wooded area (hey, this is my dream, stop smirking) with a little stream in it. there is perfect soil there for a great garden and by this time i will know how to grow all sorts of things with great skill and will have all the time in the world to devote myself to helping these things thrive (note: opposite from the current status of my non-garden). at the edge of the wood is where my bees will live. i will sing to them as i steal their honey. and i will sell that honey at a farmers market stand. every saturday. and i will learn everyone's name who comes to my stand - there will be lots of regulars. and it will almost always be sunny in my fantasy future, except for the occasional wonderful rainfall when necessary for my beautiful things to grow from the ground. can't you smell that rain hitting the beautiful soil? it smells so good, in case you can't wrap your mind around my little dream, here.
my baby is getting his first tooth. i can see it. the top right front tooth is coming on through. its crazy. i've been expecting it. i've been searching for it, prying his mouth open and looking in there wondering where it is. rubbing my finger on his gums, feeling for it - knowing it HAD to be coming soon. and tonight, when i wasn't looking for it - when i was entertaining my little man right before giving him a dose of his hot pink antibiotic liquid, he gave me the biggest (used-to-be) toothless grin - and there it was. and i squealed with delight and danced around with joy. its so exciting and its just a teensy tiny itty bittle little tip of a tooth. it made me really happy that my entire being got filled up with joy over the tip of a tooth. being a mom is won-der-ful!
i want to run an ironman. really badly. the idea haunts me, and terrifies me. i've run olympic distance triathlons. they're great fun and i barely trained and did better-than-average. and when i do better-than-average at thing without trying very hard at all, it gets me really excited to think about my potential if i DID actually try my very hardest. take the half marathon i ran last sunday - 8 months after having my baby. it was my very best time ever, 2 hours and 1 minute. and i tried more than i have in the past, but certainly did not dedicate my being (who has time for that with an infant???) to the event. so. enter miss type-a-personality who gets really excited about WAY too many things and there you have it.....really wanting to dedicate a lot of my being (i reserve most of it for the mom/wife combo that i dedicate my days to) to my half marathon in las vegas this december and my FIRST FULL MARATHON this january in phoenix. i should probably be on this "drug"....i seriously get way too excited about things. but i can't help it. i am EXCITED! so, we'll see where all of this goes. my friend jen is going to help with petey so i can start swimming laps (we are taking turns, i'm watching her little dude so she can do pilates -- moms helping moms, yay!).
i did 30 minutes of a 1 hour 30 minute P90X yoga workout today. that was all i could handle. it was amazing. and i did it in my livingroom before petey woke up this morning. that's another goal - get my core strong enough and my whole body limber/fit enough to complete the entire workout. sooo yummy.
ok. and i think i've decided what i want to be when i grow up. yay!!! on monday, the 24th i am (finally) starting my personal trainer studying. i have all the materials. but i am dedicating myself to getting it done. it should take 4-5 months before i can take the exam and get my certification. after that i am going to pursue becoming certified as a doula. funny where you think you'll end up as a child (dolphin trainer, veterinarian, psyhologist, journalist, and grocery store bagger were all ideas i've tossed around at various stages of my life) and where you ACTUALLY end up...when you get there.
i wrote this in my journal yesterday:
find balance
-living in the moment
where you are
right now,
and
-striving to get to
where you want to be,
what you want to become.
that's where i'm at right now folks. loving my daily moments. the things that make up my days. and letting my brain go where it needs to go to dream up my future.

visions of our today
quarantine
little man is being subjected twice daily to forced hot pink liquid antibiotics. poor dude. we're laying low this week. luckily for his momma, he's still a happy camper. despite the ridiculous quantity of oogies coming outta his poor little cute button nose. of course its contagious for a little longer til the antibiotics have time to do their thing so we're on lockdown for a couple of days.
strangely, its kind of nice. to sit and stay and play and just enjoy the day as it goes by. fitting little bits of productivity in during naptime. other than the sickness part, i kinda digg being on lockdown.

trip to carlsbad
America's Finest City 1/2 Marathon
i ran a half marathon this morning. the weather was perfect. i didn't feel perfect waking up at 4:15 (ew!) but must've been feeling good enough, i ran my fastest half marathon today! my time was 2:01:54. i really wanted to break 2 hours, but there was really big mile-long hill at mile 11 that my legs just couldn't push up at the pace i was going. oh well. there's always the next race, and its nice to have a goal!

fun with friends
look at them now, 2 months later!
such a fun day today! after swim class, our friend jen hosted a bunch of mom's and their wee ones for lunch and an afternoon of playing. what a great time (and yummy food....nothing bundt cake is amazing) watching our little ones, all one year or less, play around together. petey napped and then we overstayed our welcome (sorry jen, you were a lovely hostess for not kicking us out) and chatted until dinnertime. even got to do a tiny bit of much needed catch-up on the phone with my love, alie. now tonight its down to business getting packed! tomorrow daddy only has to work a teensy bit and then we'll play in the afternoon. and tomorrow night, for our four year anniversary we're going to Jake's Del Mar. so excited. yeah date night!!!
i just have to say how excited i am, 2 nights ago i spilled water all over the desk and our mouse was malfunctioning due to partial drowning, but as of tonight it is working just perfectly. whew. reid wants to put up a sign in the kitchen that reads "___ days since last sarah incident". :)
here's ryan opening his -late- birthday gift from us. he was quite impressed with the box. hope he enjoys the shopping cart inside as much as he did the packaging!

in case you were wondering-
baby formula containers covered in pretty paper make the most adorable vases for a bunch of happy flowers purchased at the farmers market. just so you know. and i'm sure you'll sleep better knowing this. :) i'll sleep better when reid is home from work. its a late one, that guy sure does work hard! we're proud of him!
